Temp Phone Numbers by Country: 180+ Countries

By the editorial team · Updated · What changed

Pick a free temp phone number from the country your app expects, then read the code in your browser. Every one is a virtual SMS number with a shared inbox. The directory shows each country’s dial code and live count, and a quick guide helps you choose.

01 — Guide

Which Country to Pick for Text Verification

For text verification, pick the country by where the app runs and how strict it is. Global apps send codes almost anywhere. Local services often accept only their own country’s numbers. Use this guide to choose before you open a number.

A global messenger or social app→USA or UKWidest acceptance and the most fresh numbers
A service that only runs in one country→That countryLocal apps often reject foreign numbers
A European app or shop→UK or another European countryMatches the app’s main market
An app from China, India or Japan→China, India or JapanMany of these apps ask for a local number
Any app, when US numbers keep failing→CanadaSame +1 code, different number pool

When two countries fit, pick the one with more live numbers. A bigger pool means fresher numbers.

02 — North America

Receive SMS Online in the USA and Canada (+1)

Numbers from the USA are the most widely accepted on the site. Most global apps were built for American users first, so a +1 number rarely looks out of place. If you only need a code and the app has no country rule, start with the US. See live US numbers.

Canada also uses the +1 code, and its numbers have the same 10-digit format. Apps that accept any +1 number usually treat Canadian and US numbers the same, so Canada is a good backup when US numbers are busy or blocked. If you need a temp number in Canada for a Canadian service, pick it directly from the Canada numbers. The US numbers let you pick by area code, which some US services check.

03 — Europe

UK Phone Numbers and Other European Numbers

United Kingdom flag+44 7700 900 271

UK numbers are the usual choice for European services. They suit apps that serve Europe or that ask specifically for a non-US number. A UK mobile number starts with +44 7, and apps that check the format expect that prefix. British delivery, marketplace and retail apps are the most common reason people pick the UK. See live UK numbers.

We add numbers from other European countries when we can get them. European numbers help when an app wants a number from the same country as your billing address or app store region. Keep in mind that many EU services are strict about shared numbers, so a fresh number matters more there. All European countries in the directory.

04 — Asia

Free Phone Numbers in Asia: China, India and Japan

Numbers from Asia, mainly China, India and Japan, are for local apps that refuse foreign numbers. Each country has its own quirks.

05 — Formats

Country Codes and Phone Number Formats

Dial codes and number lengths differ by country, and a wrong format is a common reason a code never arrives. Always type the plus sign and the country code, and drop any zero that a local number starts with. Other reasons a code never arrives. How to enter a number correctly.

Backup countries

No SMS From One Country? Switch to a Backup

If two fresh numbers from one country get no code (check each number’s inbox), the app may not send there. Try the backup countries below before you give up on the app.

07 — Why it matters

Why the Country Code Matters for Phone Number Verification

During phone number verification, an app reads the country code to see where a number is registered, and some apps use it to decide whether to send a code at all.

Local only

Apps That Need a Local Number

Banks, delivery services, ride apps and local marketplaces often accept only numbers from the country they operate in. They may also compare the number’s country with your IP address or app store region. Which apps need a private number.

Any country

Apps That Accept Any Country

Messengers and most global social apps send codes to almost any country. For them, the freshness of the number matters more than where it’s from.

08 — FAQ

Phone Numbers by Country FAQ

Common questions about choosing a number by country.

Which country works with the most apps?+

US numbers are the usual first try for global apps. Check the live counts in the directory before you pick. See the success rate by app. Telegram is an exception: its codes arrive most often on UK numbers. Rates change every week.

Can I get a number from any country?+

You can get free numbers only from the countries in the directory. Private numbers cover more of them. New countries appear when new numbers are added in the daily batch. Local apps usually need a number from their own country.

Does my location need to match the number?+

For most global apps, no. Some local apps compare the two. Banks, delivery and ride apps may compare your IP address or app store region with the number’s country. For those, use a number from the country you are in.

How do I type a foreign number?+

Enter the plus sign, the country code and the rest of the number. Drop any leading zero after the country code. If the form has a country picker, choose the country there and type only the national number. Don’t add spaces or dashes.

Why does a country have no numbers right now?+

Numbers get retired when they stop working. New ones are added as they come in. Meanwhile, private numbers may be available there. Check back after the next daily batch or pick a backup country. Global apps usually accept a nearby country.
